"Victoria Beckham", has been slated for her appearance on

American Idol - with critics calling her "gaunt" and "crazy".

"Posh Spice stepped in to become a guest judge on the US reality show after Paula Abdul quit the series last year".

"The show made headlines again this week when Simon Cowell announced he was leaving to set up the American version of X Factor across the pond".

"Granny fashion? ... Posh
Splash".

"But judging from the response Victoria has received after her episode aired in the States last night, it looks very unlikely that she'll be stepping into his shoes as a permanent fixture on the panel".

"After watching the show, the Los Angeles Times critic said: "The night's saddest failure, however, was guest judge Victoria Beckham, who actually made plenty of appealing comments and bonded beautifully with fellow judge Kara DioGuardi but whose gaunt appearance was so off-putting it might have cost her the slot DeGeneres eventually won."

"New York's The Village Voice's blog then pipped up: "Her face is just too crazy for the close-up, and she has nothing to add to the commentary". I always thought a British accent made people sound smart but I guess I was wrong."

"Other reports hit out at her clothes, mocking her lace headband as something "she found in her granny's closet". She was also seen rowing with Simon on the panel who rolled his eyes and huffed at her after she stood up for a hopeful whose efforts he had slammed".

"Ellen DeGeneres was announced as Paula's replacement after Posh's two-episode guest stint. Katy Perry and Joe Jonas were among the other stars drafted in for guest slots on the series".
